The Championship Course was a pleasure to play today, a leisurely 18
holes of unhurried golf with empty fairways before and behind meant I
could concentrate on my game and get lost in the tranquility of the
course with just the squall of an oystercatcher or two, the white tail
of a wild rabbit hopping through the rough (luckily from a distance!),
and a course that is improving in condition as the season goes on.
It's
the Rotary Open this weekend, I had to go out and test the greens, the
quality of the fairways, it's a completely different course than two
months ago, it's fast reaching its peak with a great balance of sun and
rain, I would recommend playing during the months of August and
September. The fairways have plenty of carry, few divots, the greens are
quick but measurable and readable.
Looking forward to
heading out on Saturday, hope the weekend is dry, regardless it will be a
pleasure to walk round one of Scotland's most historic golf courses and
a true links experience.

Machrihanish Basks In Scorching Sunshine
Today was a simply stunning day, the sea was calm with just a few gentle waves rolling in, the gentle warblings of the occasional bird and fly by from a butterfly or two. The blue skies and lots of smiling golfers were just two of the positives.
The course was open to interpretation today, given that the greenkeepers have only had just over a week since heavy rain and severe frosts and cold temperatures the course played remarkably well. The fairways were consistent with plenty of roll, the greens whilst not as lush as normal at peak season were well manicured and were quick making for a really enjoyable and challenging round, the carry of the fairways and almost no wind at all meant for extra long drives which is always a bonus.
The weather at Machrihanish is set to stay this way for well into next week, why not check out the webcam on the website and then contact Ken to book your round while the weather is stunning, you'll have a fantastic game!
We've added a couple of photos to the Machrihanish Golf Club Facebook page which includes the stunning view from behind the 9th hole of Machrihanish Bay beach please take a look.
